tonight, tonight

Tonight was wonderful.

Amy and I went to see Ester’s friend Nate perform at a classy place called “Slate” in Walnut Creek, and man did it rock. The first thing we did when we got there was we said hello to Nate, and gave him his new tie that Amy had bought at the thrift store on the same day they go me the famous oar, which I have forgotten to mention here. Anyway, he loved it and put it on for the show, and we seated ourselves. After a few minutes the waitress came over and we got jalapĂ©no poppers with tea. Not the best mix, but two positives make a positive in math, so hey.

I had no idea they would be as good as they were. It was an awesome evening. I finally got a chance to read that Douglas Adams article to Amy, while practicing my horrid (chose that over horrible on purpose) English accent, while drinking tea, as neither of us felt like having an alcoholic beverage (and couldn’t, even if we had wanted to).

For their encore, they played the theme to mario/bowser, which I wasn’t expecting at all, and it totally rocked. Supposedly it was the first time they had played it live. Just superb. In fact superb doesn’t even cover it. The joy I felt when I figured out it was the Mario theme song was like sunshine and daisies.

Anyway, after it was all over, we waited for the crowd to clear, said goodbye to Ester, and congratulated Nate on the awesome performance.

When that was all over with, we realized it was only 9:30 or so, and headed over to La Scalla and had hot cocoa, which was also extremely nice. By then the air had finally cooled off enough that my wearing pants and a long sleeved shirt all day finally paid off.

After La Scolla, we drove over to Sean’s house to drop of his ties. I can’t figure out why Amy had them in the first place. I vaguely remember her saying something about her having to dry clean things and how she would do his too. Anyway, Sean being the great guy he is gave her a huge box of chocolates that look like they would put 10 pounds on you if you ate the whole thing yourself, in return for the rides to/from rehearsal and for being a good friend. Oy, I feel so cheap now. Anyway, I suppose there’s not much else to say, so, alas, goodnight.
