darnit jesse, Ill blog already

I’ve been meaning to blog about this since just after school started, I just keep forgetting to mention it.

There is a street here in the U district that for seven or eight blocks is under construction. I had to stop at University Book Store which is located along this stretch of road, to pick up a notebook for math class and I parked kind of far away since its in an area where parking is scarce and expensive and I found a cheap spot on an empty street. I walked up to the street and discovered that it was rather torn up. Alright, perhaps torn up is an understatement…the street was completely gone. All the pavement had been torn out and all that was left was a giant dirt area. Just for the heck of it and because it was hardly unsafe since no actual construction was going on there at the time, I walked down the center of what would have been the street. It was so amazing to watch people move around when you could see all of them without the obstruction of other cars. I never realized how noisy cars were either. The walk was pleasant and quiet even though the next street over was roaring with cars and buses fighting for every inch of pavement. What really got to me was /how/ quiet it was though. It was eerily silent. It was as if everything else on earth had stopped except this little stretch of street and all the ambient noise was coming from the few little shops along the way. It makes me wish there weren’t cars in teh city but just giant sidewalks lined with little shops.
