apple’s new music service
I just tried out Apple’s new music service, and I must say that i’m quite pleased. I just bought Diana Krall’s Live in Paris Album, and it’s downloading as I type this. Speaking of downloading, the 1-click purchasing system works great. I am guessing they had to pay Amazon for that. I remember reading something about them having the rights to it. Now, I could go in depth about every single little feature, but i’m just going to say that everything is pretty darn slick.
I was a bit wary when I started hearing the first rumors about this new service. I thought the selection of music would be too small, and the system would be too limited, as others have proven to be in the past. However, by some miracle, Apple has managed to overcome those troubles of the past. There really is a good selection of music to choose from. Even classical, which is what really caught my interest. Classical music is extremely hard to find online, and even offline I have had the experience of searching for a day or two just to find a store that carries a CD. I searched for recordings for a few of the songs i’ve been working on this year, and about 3 out of the four that I searched for showed up, high quality preview clips and all. Try that on a peer-to-peer network*.
It’s hard to say how things will go in the long run, but my hopes are high. I think Apple has got a winner.
*I am very fond of P2P technology, and I was definitely a Napster fan, but lets face it, you’re not going to get this level of service using P2P.
