frustrated
I have to say that I am honestly very frustrated. That is that despite the fact that I bought this laptop and have supposedly gained all this portability, now that I have gotten to college, I have had an overabundance of deep thinking moments, if you will, and very little blogging of them. I have little notes scattered all over handouts, on stickies on my desk and in my planner of things I should blog about. I have one stuck on my computer next to the trackpad that says “people are like icebergs” and several in my planner that revolve around one single one that says “political correctness v. tolerance”.
I’ve been dreadfully busy through orientation (which ended yesterday) going to various meetings, mini-retreats and programs about diversity. I won’t regale you with the tedious details of every event, at least not more than to say that I developed lots of little ideas like that one above, small bits to gnaw away at. My busyness during orientation has also been the reason why since I have arrived in Providence, I have yet to post…at all. I wrote stickies all over the place and had the good intention of blogging for a long time. As I said, I had lots to blog about, but also lots of drunk college frosh to hang out with at 4am. And in doing so, I was almost positive that I wouldn’t again have the opportunity to see drunk college students on a Sunday night; I needed to take advantage of the opportunity.
So far, Brown has been far more than I ever expected it to be, both in terms of new challenges, and new people. Meeting people has not been the nightmare I thought it would be, and my classes (EN3 at least) seem to be interesting. Since classes started today, I finally had a reason to use my ipod, but mostly it has just been another tech gadget I paid a lot of money for only to use it very little. The only truly positive thing that has come out of it as of yet is that I picked up some kickass headphones for $15 to go with it and I can use them with my computer to hear the bass that I know is in the songs I am listening to and that I just can’t hear from the astonishingly poor speakers that are built into the powerbook. I think one of the first purchases I will make at college after posters and textbooks will be a good set of satellite speakers to listen to music on.
And while I am sure I have a lot more to share, it’s getting late here, or more accurately, I am exhausted from not getting any sleep, so I must cut my entry short. I apologize for being so rushed. At least now I can finally remove the last sticky note from my computer “blog: people are like icebergs”.
